The Diet Solution Program: an Answer for America’s Health Crisis?
Being overweight is a miserable place to be; it harms one’s looks, lifestyle, self-esteem, and sex life. Perhaps even more importantly, it harms one’s health and even the ability to get lower cost health insurance. Obesity, which now affects one in three Americans, can shorten life expectancy, leading to a large number of health problems such as heart disease, stroke, some cancers, high cholesterol, diabetes, joint problems, sleep apnea, mental health issues, and varicose veins. The obesity crisis is now spreading to America’s children with one third of youngsters between two and nineteen now overweight and children now becoming prone to disease that was formerly confined to adults, such as type II diabetes and heart disease.
While some people are genetically predisposed to gain weight faster than others, the larger picture shows that modern lifestyles and diets are to blame. We all eat far too much fat and sugar, too little of the right foods, and exercise too little for our own good.
But the biggest problem affecting our health may be one of willpower. No one wants to be fat – it’s harder to get fashionable clothes and health insurance. It’s harder still to pass up that second helping of fries, the opened packet of chocolate chip cookies, the candy bar you found in your handbag, or the mountain of mashed potatoes your mom gave you when you went home for dinner.
Diet “experts” are all growing rich on the backs of people who cannot help themselves and America’s 21st century lifestyle is to blame. Fast food outlets are everywhere, advertizing pushes candy, burgers, cakes and cookies at us 24/7, everyone owns a car, and cities are designed around using the car and walking as little as possible.
Health and fitness expert Isobel De Los Rios was herself under threat from one of the major diseases associated with obesity, type II diabetes, before she developed the Diet Solution Program. She was overweight and her mother and grandparents before her had developed the disease, which is associated with obesity, but also has a strong familial element. Isobel had watched her overweight mother’s health failing and knew that she herself was likely to go down the same path.
She applied her nutritional knowledge and developed her diet, which has since helped 30,000 people, including her mother, who lost 40lbs and was able to come off diabetes medication. Isobel herself lost weight and gained a slim figure and high energy levels.
So what is the secret of this current best-selling diet? Isobel first helps clients discover their metabolic type and then designs a diet around this based on one-ingredient foods – highly processed, fatty and sugary foods are discouraged. Trans-fats and wheat products are also banned, even wholegrain, formerly considered healthful. Isobel also encourages her clients to take exercise.
